I’ve been thinking that my compost pile needs straw, but finding a place to get it and haul it home seems daunting. Then I noticed how many of my neighbors have long, luxuriant ornamental grass clumps.

Which need to be cut back in the winter for the spring growth.

I talked to one neighbor and will be heading out there the next mild day to get a big heap of “straw.” We’ll see how it works!
